Khojati Surmas/Kohls are made of herbs that are blended with natural pigments to impart colour. They contain vegetable carbon black primarily made from almonds. Two of our Surmas, namely Surma Sada (General Care Surma), and Surma Sada Aswad (Premium Kohl) contain Ithmid that is all natural and carefully balanced with herbal extracts ensuring no harmful side-effects. Ithmid, when used in right proportions, produces an antibacterial effect and protects the eyes from harsh glare of the sun. We ensure that all our surmas are superfine to provide maximum comfort and smooth application every time.

Khojati General Care Surmas/Kohls are formulated to soothe and relax tired, irritated eyes. They are blended with cooling herbs such as Mint, Rose, Bhimseni Kafoor, and are pigmented with vegetable carbon black. These surmas can be used by anyone above the age of 12 years. These surmas are 100% natural.

Khojati Special Care Surmas/Kohls are enriched with medicinal herbs that work towards addressing specific eye problems that may occur due to age or other lifestyle choices. Some work by producing a warm effect, while others work by producing a cooling effect. These surmas are 100% natural.

Khojati Premium Surmas/Kohls are some of the deepest black, superfine surmas that you can find in the market. These are made from the deepest black pigments sourced from vegetable carbon black and infused with Almond oil. Khojati Surma Sada Aswad is made with genuine Ithmid and is tested to be well below the toxicity limit. These smudge-proof premium kohls not only define and beautify eyes, they protect them from environmental pollutants and harsh sun.

We at Khojati have developed surmas/kohls that are in accordance with the principles of Unani medicine that emphasise on how different age groups have unique health requirements. Our eyes change as we age and depend upon our overall physical health. Our surmas/kohls are formulated keeping this dynamic nature of eye health in mind. However, exceptions can be made for those who require certain surmas given the condition of their eyes even if they do not fit the age range. We suggest you reach out to us for guidance.

While our surmas/kohls are absolutely safe to use and show zero toxicity, we recommend that people who have undergone any eye surgery (such as cataract and laser eye surgery) should avoid using surmas to avoid any physical complications. Furthermore, please do not use surmas if you are wearing lenses as you may accidentally break the lens causing damage to your eyes. You may apply the surmas an hour after removing the lenses once you’re sure your eyes are not irritate

We recommend applying our General Wellness and Special Care Surmas 1-2 hours before going to bed. Make sure that after application, you are not straining your eyes by excessive reading or screen time. Our General Wellness surmas can also be used any time during the day to relieve eye strain. You do not need more than 2 applications daily to maintain your eye health. Please do not overdo the surma application.

Please keep your Khojati surma bottles in a cool and dry place. Any moisture will make the surma clump as we do not add any preservatives and chemical agents that prevent caking. Do not insert a moist applicator in the surma. Make sure you wipe the applicator dry with a soft tissue paper before dipping it in the surma bottle.

Make sure you shed off the excess surma from the applicator and then apply a very minimal quantity. In case of General Wellness and Special Care Surmas, a very negligible amount on the applicator is enough to achieve the desired result. We insist that you be consistent with the surma usage, and not increase the quantity of how much you apply. Do not apply excessively as it may cause irritation. Our Special Care Surmas, namely Khojati Surma Khas White, Khojati Surma Supreme White, and Khojati Surma Neem Special, have a warmth producing effect when applied. The warmth is due to the use of certain herbs that work towards effectively draining any impurities from the eyes. They stimulate the tear glands and regulate the flow of blood. In this case, gently dab the eyes dry with cotton and do not rub them at any cost. Soothe the eyes with our cooling surmas, such as Khojati Surma Extra Special Mamira. We recommend that people who are at the risk of suffering increased pressure in the eyes due to any underlying ailments avoid the use of warmth producing surmas.
